What an online shop accessibility review should cover

Browse and product discovery

Navigation menus, search, filters, category pages, headings, product imagery and controls need clear names and predictable keyboard behaviour.

Product information and choices

Prices, variants, availability, validation messages and product media need to remain understandable without relying only on colour, position or sight.

Cart, forms and checkout

Labels, instructions, errors, focus order and status changes can determine whether a customer can complete the purchase independently.

Changes after launch

Theme releases, apps, campaigns and new components can reintroduce barriers. Repeated scans help find detectable regressions.

From first check to continuing evidence

Use the result, not just the score.

Find detectable barriers

Test representative public pages in Chromium and review prioritised findings with affected code and WCAG references.

Brief the people fixing them

Use the audit report to communicate scope, examples and manual-review work without presenting automation as a complete assessment.

Watch for regressions

Scheduled scans and a dated evidence log connect later results with the corrective work recorded by your team.

Automation is a starting point

A public-page scan cannot assess every customer journey. Authenticated account areas, payment frames, meaningful alternative text, focus order and complete keyboard or screen-reader journeys need appropriate human review. THAVIQ keeps those boundaries visible in its reports.

E-commerce accessibility questions

Does the European Accessibility Act apply to e-commerce websites?

The European Accessibility Act covers specified consumer products and services, including e-commerce services. National implementation, exemptions and the exact scope of an individual business still need to be assessed for that business and market.

What parts of an online shop should be tested?

Product discovery, navigation, product information, account forms, cart and checkout journeys all matter. Automated testing can inspect public pages for detectable WCAG barriers, while keyboard, screen-reader and authenticated purchase journeys also need human testing.

Can THAVIQ scan Shopify, WooCommerce and custom stores?

THAVIQ scans public web pages in a real Chromium browser, so it is not tied to one commerce platform. Pages behind sign-in and third-party checkout pages on another domain may require separate access, permission or manual testing.

What do I receive after an e-commerce accessibility scan?

The free scan shows code-level findings from representative public pages. The one-time audit expands discovery and adds a PDF report. Monitoring adds scheduled rescans, regression detection and a dated record of corrective work.

The legal starting point is Directive (EU) 2019/882 . Applicability and exemptions depend on the business, service and national law.
